PostSubject: Marta's Speech Outline   Wed Oct 14, 2009 11:53 am

TOPIC: Indie Craft
Purpose of speech:
To inform on what indie craft is, how it effects the economy, and how it effects individuals.
Intended audience: general

Attention Getting Intro:
What do you think of when you hear the word “craft”? Maybe images of caterpillars made of egg cartons float through your head. Maybe you feel like screaming out of terror, remembering the construction paper, macaroni, and Aleene’s tacky glue of your childhood. A new generation of craft has erupted over the last few years. These are people who take making seriously. It’s not just a hobby and they don’t make things like paper plates covered in macaroni.

What is your Thesis / Big idea for this speech:
Stuff is human again

Please summarize in a sentence the major points you would like to make in this speech:
The indie crafters are a group of people who are stretching the boundaries of “craft“, effecting the economy in huge ways, and changing the way people think about consuming.

1st point:
1. Craft vs. Art
Support or evidence to support this point:
Handmade Nation by Faythe Levine and Cortney Heimerl

2nd point:
How Handmade Effects The World (economy)

3rd point:
How Handmade Effects You

How could you creatively summarize your major points and conclude this speech?
By buying from indie crafters, you're not only getting what you need, but helping others while you do it.
