intro: “Sometimes people call me an idealist. Well, that is the way I know I am an American. America is the only idealistic nation in the world.” This great statement was made by Woodrow T. Wilson.

Value: Liberty

Definition: Liberty- the freedom to think or act without being constrained by necessity or force

Thesis: (no not know yet)

C1:Liberty can not be attained without idealism

C2:Liberty would not exist on pragmatism alone

C3:America would not exist without idealism

Ashley, Thanks for posting your outline. You've taken your first step in getting your head around debate!... Putting thoughts on paper. I know it is painful at times but keep THINKING about it. Doing so is going to help you develop the vocabulary to argue effectively.

A few questions you might want to ask as you work towards developing a thesis for this case:

What is your definition of Liberty?

Why is Liberty an important value to uphold as we affirm this case?

How do we achieve liberty in a society? (Give me a tangible way that liberty is accomplished or upheld)

How could your opponent twist the value of liberty to benefit a pragmatic case?

I also want you to tell me which one of your contentions is going to be the 1st contention your opponent might attack... Give me a guess on this one and I'll see if we came up with the same thought!
This might seem like a trick question, but it's not...
